SDC Retail Properties has developed, leased and managed shopping centers throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin for the better part of four decades. SDC Retail’s nucleus of Bruce Peterson, Bruce Lundgren and Dewey Johnson had been business partners for nearly 40 years until the death of Dewey Johnson in 2017. Together they transformed SDC Retail Properties from a small consulting firm to a successful Limited Liability Company with shopping centers across Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Peterson founded the company on January 1, 1977, making Lundgren SDC Retail’s first hire in June of that year. Johnson joined the team in 1979. After spending their first several years as retail consultants, SDC Retail Properties made the jump to self-development, starting with Chaska’s Brickyard Center in 1986.

Over the years, SDC Retail Properties has developed a keen sense of small and middle markets that large real estate firms tend to overlook. They analyze the demographics surrounding their retail properties to determine which combination of tenants will bring in the most customers.

Throughout its history, SDC Retail Properties has only sold one property. While some developers seek to turn a quick profit and move on, they hold their properties long-term to increase the value and performance of their shopping centers.

The primary geographic focus of SDC Retail Properties is Minnesota and Wisconsin but will pursue development opportunities in other areas in the United States.
